It seem's quite appropriate that I visit Ryan this year after my extensive visit to the UK to be with family. I haven't seen my son Ryan in over a year when he visited me in February 2008. This trip is very long overdue. I can hardly believe he's been living in Calgary now for almost 4 years. Where has that time gone?
Tomorrow morning and head off to work for the day, after which I rush home, grab my suitcase and leave for London airport and fly to Calgary. I haven't travelled Westjet in a long time, but I hear they have television screens in front of each seat. Nice. Not sure if I'll watch the movie on the four hour flight or not. Guess it depends what they're showing. I'm a comedy or "chick flick" kinda girl, no blood and guts for this one. I'm bringing my DS just in case I decide to venture into Final Fantasy or Mario. I guess I'm a gamer at heart, although I'm not addicted to anything other than backgammon at the moment.
Maybe I'll think of some things to do while I'm visiting. I do plan on going to the Stampede, it opens July 3rd, that should be fun. I lived in Edmonton for 4 years, Ryan was born there, but I never seemed to get to the Stampede. I was a much younger woman then, and I hadn't been bitten by the travel bug.
I also hope to be able to visit Banff. It's lovely, so magestic. For me, the mountains put life in persepective just being there amongst the tall giants. I haven't been to the Rockies for 30 years, it will be nice to visit again. I'm sure Banff hasn't changed much, maybe a little bigger in population, but I suspect the streets are as quaint as ever with their mountain range backdrop. I'm taking my camera of course and hope to get some nice shots of the mountains and whatever else strikes my fancy. Maybe i'll be lucky enough to see some wild horses!
Ryan has to work some of the time while I'm visiting...all the better to escape for a while and do some shopping in Calgary, or just travel around on the light rail, just because I can, no destinations in mind. Maybe I'll find an art gallery, I probably will.
With all the "not so strict" plans I've been thinking of, I hope to do all of them, but we'll see what happens. The last trip to the UK was so planned out, due to train catching and letting relatives know when I was arriving for a few days stay, that this little vacation will seem quite free. No set plans...I can hardly wait.
